Il 13 giugno 2021 un gruppo di attivistx ha occupato parte della riserva naturale di Amager a Copenaghen costruendo piattaforme su di un grande e bellissimo salice. Amager Fælled è un’area protetta con una grande varietà di specie di piante, alcune delle quali anche commestibili come le more. È anche la casa di molti animali che sono in pericolo di estinzione: specie rare di uccelli, farfalle, rospi e salamandre.
Nonostante la notevole opposizione alla nuova area residenziale, i politici locali hanno approvato il masterplan di By & Havn. By & Havn è una società di sviluppo urbano, proprietaria di terreni e autorità portuale di proprietà della città di Copenhagen e dello stato, che sta distruggendo un grande pezzo di natura con la costruzione di costose case residenziali e uffici. Il Governo sponsorizza questo progetto come un concetto nuovo e visionario su come le future città verdi e rispettose dell’ambiente possono essere sviluppate e come possiamo coesistere con la natura nelle grandi città dimenticando di menzionare ciò che sarà distrutto per raggiungere questo sogno utopico.
L’obiettivo delle attivistx è quello di aumentare la consapevolezza sul problema della gentrificazione che sta colpendo i dintorni di Copenhagen e possibilmente far capire l’importanza dell’area verde.
L’occupazione ha trovato grande sostegno da parte della gente del posto e ne ha guadagnato la fiducia attraverso l’attenzione e la cura che son state messe nel non disturbare la fauna selvatica e gli uccelli che stanno nidificando durante l’estate.
Purtroppo durante la mattina del 7 luglio l’occupazione è stata sgomberata dagli sbirri che anche nelle settimane precedenti non hanno mancato di usare il loro potere per reprimere chiunque si opponga a questo sistema. Una persona infatti è stata fermata precedentemente allo sgombero e tenuta per una settimana in prigione, dove è stata torturata.
Dal 15 luglio l’avvocato del comune ha valutato che i lavori di demolizione dell’ex ostello della gioventù, così come la realizzazione della maturazione iniziale di base nella maggior parte dell’area, possono riprendere, affermando che l’area non influisce sull’habitat della salamandra d’acqua. Tuttavia, l’amministrazione non può rilasciare permessi di costruzione nella situazione attuale, e quindi si aspetta ancora l’effettivo “via” alla costruzione delle future case nella zona. Una decisione finale non è ancora stata presa nei casi di appello, ma Fælledby P/S (progetto di proprietà di By & Hvn e PensionDanmark) continua a seguire le istruzioni delle autorità.

On June 13, 2021 a group of activists occupied part of the Amager nature reserve in Copenhagen by building platforms on a large and beautiful willow tree. Amager Fælled is a protected area with a wide variety of plant species, some of them even edible like blackberries. It is also home to many animals that are endangered: rare species of birds, butterflies, toads and salamanders.
Despite considerable opposition to the new residential area, local politicians approved By & Havn’s master plan. By & Havn is an urban development company, land owner and port authority owned by the city of Copenhagen and the state, which is destroying a large piece of nature by building expensive residential and office homes. The government sponsors this project as a new and visionary concept on how future green and environmentally friendly cities can be developed and how we can coexist with nature in big cities forgetting to mention what will be destroyed to achieve this utopian dream.
The goal of the activistx is to raise awareness about the problem of gentrification that is affecting the surroundings of Copenhagen and possibly make people understand the importance of green area.
The occupation has found great support from the locals and has gained their trust through the care and attention that has been put into not disturbing the wildlife and birds that are nesting during the summer.
Unfortunately during the morning of July 7th the occupation was cleared by the cops who also in the previous weeks have not failed to use their power to repress anyone who opposes this system. In fact, one person was arrested before the eviction and held for a week in prison, where they were tortured.
As of July 15, the municipality’s lawyer has assessed that the demolition work of the former youth hostel, as well as the implementation of the initial basic maturation in most of the area, can resume, stating that the area does not affect the habitat of the water salamander. However, the administration cannot issue building permits in the current situation, so the actual “go” for construction of future homes in the area is still awaited. A final decision has not yet been made in the appeal cases, but Fælledby P/S (a project owned by By & Hvn and PensionDanmark) continues to follow the authorities’ instructions.
