In Inghilterra è in corso una campagna contro la vivisezione che ha preso di mira un allevamento di Beagle già obbiettivo di campagne passate. Da qualche mese, forse grazie a una visibilità mediatica maggiore, la campagna ha visto una maggiore partecipazione e una dimensione di carattere nazionale. Un presidio permanente è stato allestito all’ingresso della struttura con l’obbiettivo di bloccare eventuali trasporti di animali in uscita dall’allevamento oltre che per esercitare una pressione quotidiana nei confronti di chi amministra quel luogo di gabbie e dolore. Nei prossimi mesi cercheremo di seguirla pubblicando aggiornamenti e informazioni, con un occhio di riguardo ad eventuali obbiettivi o risvolti internazionali. In un momento storico dove la aziende del farmaco non sono mai state così forti, una campagna contro la vivisezione ha ancora più importanza.
Il Regno Unito sta assistendo a una ripresa dell’azione contro la vivisezione e sembra che ci sia un obiettivo preciso. MBR Acres è un allevamento intensivo che alleva e vende beagle per la vivisezione. Esistono da quasi cinquant’anni e hanno continuamente operato con nomi diversi tra cui Harlan e Interfauna. Quest’ultimo è stato un obiettivo precedente dell’ALF. Più di un raid è stato effettuato in passato, incluso quello con i 82 beagle e 26 conigli liberati dal luogo nel 1990.
Durante la campagna SHAC, MBR Acres è stata anche l’obiettivo di accese manifestazioni e di una campagna incessante per chiudere l’allevamento industriale. Per oltre un anno, le/gli attivistx locali hanno condotto la compagna “Stop Animal Cruelty Huntingdon”, che si è concentrata sulle manifestazioni contro MBR Acres e Covance. Da quando sono stati rilasciati filmati sotto copertura ripresi con una telecamera nascosta che mostrano i beagle trasportati dai capannoni e nei furgoni, la campagna ha assunto una dimensione non più solo locale.
Diversi giornali nazionali hanno pubblicato rapporti sull’allevamento e stampato le foto scattate dagli/lle attivistx. Politici e personaggi pubblici hanno annunciato pubblicamente il loro sostegno alla campagna.
L’ultima manifestazione ha acceso la miccia. Aiutata dai giornali che hanno parlato dell’allevamento e della campagna, il 27 giugno c’è stato un cambiamento inaspettato. Sempre più persone continuavano ad arrivare a una manifestazione che non ci si aspettava sarebbe diventata così grande. La gente era furiosa, scioccata e commossa. Le recinzioni sono state abbattute all’ingresso dell’allevamento con la polizia che non sapeva cosa fare.
Da allora, la campagna si è evoluta. Ora si chiama “Free the MBR Beagles”, e si è concentrata su quell’obbiettivo con lo scopo di chiudere l’allevamento e diventando una campagna non più solo locale, ma nazionale. Allo stesso tempo, la gente ha allestito “Camp Beagle” sul ciglio della strada, a pochi metri dall’ingresso con doppio cancello dell’allevamento di cuccioli. Camp Beagle ha detto: “NON ce ne andiamo senza beagle” con tono molto deciso.
Dopo un periodo di relativo silenzio contro la vivisezione da parte della più ampia comunità di liberazione animale, sembra che la lotta contro i laboratori di animali sia tornata.

FINO ALLA VITTORIA
Aggiornamento
Da quando è iniziata la campagna e dall’ultimo aggiornamento, Free the MBR Beagles ha avuto parecchie novità.
Per chi ancora non ne avesse sentito parlare, MBR Acres è un allevamento di beagle britannico che vende i cani ai laboratori di vivisezione. Dopo che sono stati rilasciati filmati sotto copertura di lavoratori che trasportano beagle in casse, è iniziata una campagna nazionale per chiudere l’allevamento e liberare tutti gli animali. È stato allestito anche un campo fuori dai cancelli della fattoria, con persone che vivono lì 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7.
La scorsa settimana, circa trecento persone si sono unite a una manifestazione per esercitare ancora più pressione. La gente ha viaggiato da tutto il paese solo per partecipare alla giornata, ma anche molte persone locali che non avevano idea che l’allevamento fosse così vicino a loro hanno deciso di partecipare alla manifestazione. Anche se la manifestazione è stata molto calma, l’affluenza è stata buona e ciò si tradurrà in ancora più persone che si uniranno alla prossima.
Domenica hanno iniziato a circolare alcune informazioni su una persona che lavora nell’azienda che caricava cani in un’auto. Questa è stata una grande notizia poiché da quando il campo è stato allestito, nessun cane è stato ufficialmente portato fuori dalla struttura. È stata inviata una richiesta urgente di sostegno e molte persone sono arrivate al campo in uno strano punto morto tra la polizia, i lavoratori e la gente che barricava l’uscita. Alla fine, la polizia ha permesso ai/lle lavoratori/trici di muoversi e così ha fatto la barricata esterna, e anche se le persone presenti sul posto non credono che gli animali siano stati portati fuori la domenica o qualsiasi altro giorno precedente, è difficile sapere se le/i lavoratori/trici stanno portando fuori i cani di nascosto dall’allevamento intensivo. Non si sa perché qualcuno porterebbe i cani fuori dalla fabbrica con un’auto personale e la spiegazione più plausibile è per scopi di reinserimento, ma questa è un’ipotesi non confermata. Per questo motivo è stata fatta una chiamata per un maggiore supporto quotidiano.
Per fare appello alle/ai lavoratori/trici della struttura c’è un numero da chiamare e un indirizzo email per chiunque possa fornire informazioni privilegiate in modo anonimo. Se necessario, puoi trovare i dettagli di contatto su Free The MBR Beagles. Allo stesso tempo, una società di reclutamento ha offerto ai/alle lavoratori/trici un lavoro alternativo che corrisponde o supera il loro stipendio attuale per farli uscire da quella struttura.
Da altre linee del fronte e mostrando sostegno alla campagna, l’ALF ha rilasciato due comunicati in solidarietà con l’MBR Beagles. In uno hanno spiegato come hanno preso 33 galline da un allevamento intensivo. In un altro, come hanno liberato oltre 400 porcellini d’India. Possiamo solo immaginare che le azioni dell’ALF mirate direttamente a MBR o in solidarietà con la campagna aumenteranno.
La prossima manifestazione nazionale convocata è domenica 1 agosto. Inizia alle 8 del mattino e il codice postale è PE28 2DT. È organizzato come una protesta e una “veglia funebre”, quindi si chiede alle persone di vestirsi di conseguenza. Si consigliano le mascherine.

Campaign “FREE THE MBR BEAGLES”
In England a campaign against vivisection is underway, targeting a Beagle breeding farm, already the target of past campaigns. In recent months, perhaps thanks to greater media visibility, the campaign has seen greater participation and a national dimension. A permanent garrison has been set up at the entrance of the structure with the aim of blocking any transport of animals leaving the farm as well as to exert daily pressure on those who administer that place of cages and pain. In the coming months we will try to follow it by publishing updates and information, with an eye to any goals or international implications. At a time in history when pharmaceutical companies have never been so strong, a campaign against vivisection has even more importance.
The UK is seeing a resurgence of action against vivisection, and there appears to be a clear target. MBR Acres is an intensive breeding farm that raises and sells beagles for vivisection. They have been in existence for almost fifty years and have continuously operated under different names including Harlan and Interfauna. The latter has been a previous target of the ALF. More than one raid has been conducted in the past, including the one with the 82 beagles and 26 rabbits released from the site in 1990.
During the SHAC campaign, MBR Acres was also the target of heated demonstrations and a relentless campaign to close the factory farm. For over a year, local activists led the Stop Animal Cruelty Huntingdon campaign, which focused on demonstrations against MBR Acres and Covance. Since the release of undercover footage taken with a hidden camera showing beagles being transported from sheds and into vans, the campaign has taken on more than just a local dimension.
Several national newspapers published reports on the farm and printed photos taken by activists. Politicians and public figures have publicly announced their support for the campaign.
The last event lit the fuse. Helped by newspapers that talked about the farm and the campaign, there was an unexpected shift on June 27. More and more people kept coming to a demonstration that was not expected to get this big. People were furious, shocked, and moved. Fences were torn down at the entrance to the farm with police not knowing what to do.
Since then, the campaign has evolved. Now called “Free the MBR Beagles,” it has focused on that goal of closing the breeding farm and becoming a campaign that is no longer just local, but national. At the same time, people set up “Camp Beagle” on the side of the road, just a few feet from the double-gated entrance to the puppy farm. Camp Beagle said, “We are NOT leaving without the beagles” in a very firm tone.
After a period of relative silence against vivisection by the broader animal liberation community, it seems that the fight against animal laboratories is back on.

The company is registered in the United States but has subsidiaries in several different countries around the world. Notably, the Green Hill Italian puppy farm was owned by them until it was shut down for animal cruelty in 2016. Update
Since the campaign began and since the last update, Free the MBR Beagles has had quite a bit of news.
For those of you who haven’t heard of it yet, MBR Acres is a British beagle breeding farm that sells dogs to vivisection labs. After undercover footage of workers transporting beagles in boxes was released, a national campaign began to close the breeding farm and release all the animals. A camp has also been set up outside the farm’s gates, with people living there 24/7.
Last week, about three hundred people joined a demonstration to apply even more pressure. People traveled from all over the country just to participate in the day, but many locals who had no idea that the farm was so close to them also decided to join the demonstration. Although the event was very quiet, the turnout was good and that is going to translate into even more people joining the next one.
On Sunday, some information began to circulate about a worker loading dogs into a car. This was big news as no dogs have officially been taken out of the facility since the camp was set up. An urgent request for support was sent out and many people arrived at the camp in a strange standoff between police, workers, and people barricading the exit. Eventually, the police allowed the workers to move in and so did the outside barricade, and although people on site don’t believe the animals were taken out on Sunday or any other previous day, it’s hard to know if the workers are sneaking the dogs out of the intensive breeding facility. It is not known why someone would take the dogs out of the factory in a personal car and the most plausible explanation is for rehoming purposes, but this is an unconfirmed hypothesis. Therefore, a call was made for more daily support.
To appeal to the facility workers there is a number to call and an email address for anyone who can provide insider information anonymously. If needed, you can find the contact details on Free The MBR Beagles. At the same time, a recruiting firm has offered workers an alternative job that matches or exceeds their current salary to get them out of that facility.
From other front lines and showing support for the campaign, the ALF issued two communiqués in solidarity with the MBR Beagles. In one they explained how they took 33 hens from an intensive farm. In another, how they released over 400 guinea pigs. We can only imagine that ALF actions aimed directly at MBR or in solidarity with the campaign will increase.
The next national demonstration called is on Sunday 1 August. It starts at 8am and the postcode is PE28 2DT. It is organised as a protest and a ‘wake’, so people are asked to dress accordingly. Masks are recommended.

It is a breath of fresh air in the animal liberation movement that could bring back the uncompromising strength and struggle of yesteryear. If you’re not, you probably have an MBR branch near you. Find them, get information about them and target them! Tear down the company!
